NYC Pride 2013

I was honored to attend the NYC Pride parade this year while I was in the city. This year was so hype especially since the favorable SCOTUS ruling coming down in CA just a week prior! I have some LGBT friends and I definitely wanted to show my support by coming out with them. As you can see, the crowds were out for this big event.

Being a minority (double - female/Black), I definitely know what discrimination looks and feels like. So I can understand the emotion that comes with the SCOTUS ruling and how that translated to this year's parade and I was thrilled to be apart of it!

I got a great video here of one of the livest floats to pass me at 22nd/5th last Sunday.

I also got a chance to see how a lot of NYC's business and political figures reacted to the takeover that was Pride Weekend 2013. There were several churches in the parade and I was glad to see the love they showed to everyone. There were also several private schools that had floats passing down the streets. Since this is a mayoral election year, of course all the Democratic front runners had a presence in the parade. I saw several displays from lots of candidates, but the one candidate that stood out was Anthony Weiner. Now I am sure everyone knows who he is (rolls eyes at the lack of Twitter couth). But I will say, he was working the crowd! He passed me running down the street, shirt cuffs rolled up and tie falling off his neck waving this HUGE pride flag! (Just a disclaimer: there was a cameraman on him at this point) The crowd went crazy obviously! Most of the other candidates (if they were even in attendance) were walking waving their hands in the air like the British royals do atop their horse-drawn carriages. So hats off to Mr. Weiner for taking a risk and looking crazy! You go Glen Coco!
