Everywhere we went, everything was PACKED. My co-workers had been telling me about the fireworks for weeks now and that is all I wanted to do. I didn't want to participate in all the fluff stuff, I just wanted to see me some good ole' fashioned sparklers. My friend Keia had the same idea, so we set out in the morning to plan our day around seeing the sky light up.
Unfortunately, I let my other friends talk me into going to this rooftop party. Now, in my head I rationalized that by going to this rooftop, I could get a better view of the fireworks. My plan was to sneak away with Keia at about 9 to get a good spot in the front of the deck for optimal viewing at 9:30 when the show started. This probably would have worked if we had gotten to the venue on time.
I am an extraordinarily punctual person. I have to be on time everywhere (and by on time I mean 10 minutes early). My dad really taught me that as I was younger because he is always early and so was his mother. Apparently, it is like a Clement generational thing or something. One of my pet peeves is being late because I am waiting for someone else or something like that. I would almost just rather not go in the first place. I know, it is really bad.
My friends and I ended up getting to the venue an hour after our planned arrival time. The line was wrapped around the corner and the free-entry time period was quickly coming to a close. As soon as I saw that line, I knew there was no way we would get to the door and in the party for free. So I had mentally prepared myself to pay the $25 entry fee. As we got closer, however, the hosts decided to change the game and up the price to $35 and then again to anyone who would buy a $250 bottle of liquor.
Now y'all know that was wrong! So we left that craziness before everyone who had been waiting in line for 2 hours decided to mob the bouncers. At this point, we didn't really have a plan and winging it just didn't work.
Long story short, we ended up trying to catch the fireworks from the street, but that was a fail also because no one told us (and the other 300+ people in our area) that the fireworks didn't quite show up down the intersection where we were sitting. As soon as they started about 2 blocks down from our watch spot, we rushed through the middle of the street to get a better view. By this time, Risi, Keia, and I had thrown in the towel and we sucked up the half view we were able to get. Maybe next year we can plan this whole thing out a little better.
After the fireworks fail, we went to the 40/40 club. This is Sean Carter a.k.a Jay-Z's baseball-themed club which is in my neighborhood. It was early so the place was relatively quiet and the bartenders were extremely attentive since it was empty. But big bonus for me and Risi, I checked in on Four Square and got a free plate of hot wings! I keep telling everyone that it literally pays to be super-social (I learned that from my manager)! Risi and I chilled with our drinks and wings and were happy for the rest of the night.
It wasn't the Fourth that I had planned and I would be lying if I said everything turned out the way it should have, but it wasn't all that bad. I was with friends who I hadn't seen in months and I discovered a really cute outfit combination that I can wear again since we barely took any pictures and Risi and I got a free plate of normally $12 wings! "semi- #winning "
God bless 'murica!
Cheers from the 40/40 Club! |
