Honoring those who keep us safe

I was running late for work this morning which is so not typical. You can ask anyone who knows me and they will tell you I appreciate those who are punctual. I, myself, am most comfortable being the first person in a meeting even if I am not the last one out. I have no problems getting to an appointment 30 minutes ahead of time. So when I am late, it is like dragging nails down a chalkboard and forcing me to listen.

So as I am running walking down Lexington at 9:50am I see this gigantic American flag hanging in front of the 69th Regiment Armory archway. I walk past this building almost everyday, but today I stopped across the street and stared. In addition to this huge flag, limousines and massive fire trucks were lining the adjacent streets. As I walked around the block, I see a huddle of firemen in dress blues walking past a sign that says "Medal Day".

I was glad I was late to work today because it was really nice seeing this moment of New York City pride in the form of celebrating our FDNY firemen and women and the EMS teams. I hear sirens 24/7 from my room (my window doesn't close all the way) so I know they work overtime to keep New Yorkers (and the occasional transplant intern) safe and sound in our beds.
